Position Summary:

The Managing Director is a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO and COO to drive organizational strategy, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. This role is responsible for building and optimizing the people, processes, and systems that support a high-performing, mission-driven organization.

The Managing Director oversees People & Culture, organizational operations, and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring teams are aligned, operations are scalable, and the organization is well-positioned for continued growth. This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic, hands-on leader who excels at developing talent, improving organizational effectiveness, and fostering a collaborative, accountable, and values-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy, Vision, Leadership:

  • Ensure the organization has the right people - the staffing, consulting, and systems in place to achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with the CEO and COO (as part of the C-Suite) to help guide and operationalize the organization’s future.
  • Promote a culture of trust, high performance, and continuous improvement, one that values learning, feedback, and a commitment to quality.
  • Ensure that internal systems are efficient, accessible, and transparent.
  • Provide analytical support on trends and inefficiencies. Build a “dashboard” culture that allows for continuous improvement as the company grows.
  • Champion the values of collaboration, communication, and accountability at the organization to help the company move into its next phase of organizational transformation.
  • Given the company’s fast growth, help set up and tweak departmental and role constructions so that all parts unify to a greater whole. Focus in particular on “handoffs” (presales→intake→care coordination→retainer/new SOP/closure.)
  • Provide leadership in establishing a strategic role for People + Culture (P&C), and execute a long-term vision for staff professionalization, skill building, and internal development.

Execution and Administration:

  • Execute and lead people functions including: management training; staff development; compensation/benefits; employee relations; recruitment/hiring; onboarding; payroll; internal communications; HR compliance; travel policies; computer use; and performance evaluation with a strong focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets of the work
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, monitor and evaluate results.
  • Lead the implementation of Asana project management across the organization; ensure that staff have the training and support they need to use Asana at a high level; and ensure accountability for systematizing Asana in the organization’s daily work and in meeting client deliverables.
  • Be accountable for implementing best practices in organizational policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and accountability while enhancing the quality of staff members’ experience.
  • Foster and strengthen strong communication and coordination within the organization. Stay a step ahead of team questions and concerns. Strengthen cross-team collaboration and communication to amplify our impact.
  • Manage P&C and administrative departmental budgets.
